AUSTSWIM Teacher Licence™ Renewal Steps

• Step 1 – Complete the Renewal Form

• Step 2 - Provide Details of Your Current CPR Certificate

  A current (within 12 months) CPR Certificate is required to be submitted and must be completed with an approved provider. AUSTSWIM recognises CPR courses that comply with Australian Resuscitation Guidelines and are delivered by training organisations registered with the respective state training authority.

  If in doubt please contact AUSTSWIM. Candidates and AUSTSWIM Teachers™ with a First Aid certificate should note the CPR component is only valid for 12 months.

  AUSTSWIM Teachers™ need to maintain their CPR qualification every 12 months in order for their AUSTSWIM Teacher Licence™ to remain valid. A copy is not required to be submitted however proof may be requested in the event of an audit. 

• Step 3 - Agree to and Sign the AUSTSWIM Teacher™ Declaration

  AUSTSWIM has in place an AUSTSWIM Teacher Code of Behaviour to be adhered to by all AUSTSWIM Licenced Teachers. You can view the current code by clicking here.

  You are required to also agree to the AUSTSWIM Teacher Declaration. To view the declaration click here.

• Step 4 - List the Details of Professional Development Hours

  A minimum of 10 hours is to be gained over the 3 year period.    

  You can gain your minimum of 10 hours over the 3 year period by attending aquatic education courses, conferences, seminars, in-house training and other relevant training courses.

  We recognise that there are many professional development opportunities that can positively contribute to your experience as a teacher and some will be aquatic based and others will not, for example childhood education subjects, communication strategies and legal studies. If you have any doubt whether a course you are contemplating is one that will be acceptable for professional development hours call AUSTSWIM on 1300 885 529 to clarify before enrolling.

  Please note: 

  • Each individual course/qualification/workshop can only be claimed once in every 3 year period.  
  • If you have completed an AUSTSWIM extension course within the 12 month training period you will receive an updated expiry date of 3 years from your issue date. 
  • If you have completed an AUSTSWIM extension course after the initial 12 month training period you will receive an updated expiry date of 4 years from your elective course date. 
  • CPR does not contribute towards professional development as it is a separate requirement of AUSTSWIM renewal.
  • You are not required to send in proof of attendance for professional development unless requested to do so through an audit.  

  Reminder to organisations

  In-house Professional Development offered by Organisations and employers are reminded that if they deliver in-house professional development programs relevant to AUSTSWIM teachers™ they are eligible to apply for recognition. • Step 5 - List the Details of Practical Teaching Experience Hours

  A minimum of 40 hours is to be gained over the 3 year period.  

  You must be able to show evidence that you have completed a minimum of 40 hours of actual teaching over the preceding 3 years. If the minimum of 40 hours of teaching experience over the three-year period has not been met, you have the option to complete a Teaching Competence Assessment. • Step 6 - Enclose the Renewal Fee

   

  The renewal fee will renew your AUSTSWIM Teacher Licence for a further 3 years.

  PAY IN FULL
  Standard fee AUD $255 (Inc GST) <3 months expired
  Expired fee AUD $255(iNC gst) plus late fee (select from below)
  
  If you are over 3 months expired you will be required to pay the applicable late fee in addition to the expired fee. Tick one of the following:
  
  Over 3 mth - 12mth = add $15.00 (total $270.00 inc GST)
  13 mth - 24mth = add $30.00 (total $285.00 inc GST)
  25mth - 36mth = add $60.00 (total $315.00 inc gst)
  
  
  PAYMENT PLAN
  AUSTSWIM with Debit Success will offer you a payment plan option.    

  Standard – Upfront payment of $91.00* then $7.25 per week for 24weeks.

  Expired – Upfront payment of one of the below:
  3mth-12mth expired - $106.00* then $7.25 per week for 24weeks
  13mth-24mth expired - $121.00* then $7.25 per week for 24weeks
  25mth-36mth expired - $151.00* then $7.25 per week for 24weeks

• Step 7 - Attach an endorsed passport size colour photograph of yourself

  For visual identification purposes your photograph will be embedded on your Teacher Licence. A new passport quality photograph taken within the previous 6 months is required every 9 years.  

  As proof that the photo is of you, a person who is over 18 years of age, has known you for at least 12 months, is not related to or in a relationship with you and does not live at the same address must certify on the back of the photo that it is of you.  

• Step 8- Submit Working with Children Check

  As of July 1 2016 all candidates, aqua instructors and teachers are required to submit a working with children check (WWCC) when renewing their AUSTSWIM Licence.

• Step 9 - Return Application to AUSTSWIM.

  AUSTSWIM Teacher Licence™ renewals are processed at the AUSTSWIM Head office in Melbourne.
